Well, it seems that Democratic Senator for Illinois
Barack Obama admitted, in his memoir
Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance, to
using marijuana and cocaine in high school and college. One particularly interesting line from this memoir, which Time magazine said "may be the best-written memoir ever produced by an American politician", about his drug use in high school is:
"Pot had helped, and booze; maybe a little blow when you could afford it. Not smack, though"
Damn, I am most definitely voting for this guy if he runs for President in 2008. The dude is just like me... A drug-takin', racially-mixed political science major. I hope his drug policy reflects the fact that he himself is a former (and maybe current?) drug user. I just wish he didn't conform to the political paradigm of "I used to do drugs, but I learned how bad they are!" Drinkin' a little
booze, puffin' some
herb, and takin' a
bump here and there shouldn't be something to be ashamed of in the first place. But unfortunately, in our nation of
Puritans, a presidential candidate's past drug use is always an issue. Hopefully, Senator Obama's dabbling in mind altering substances as a youth won't have a negative effect on his current political aspirations. Barack Obama obviously enjoyed getting high when he was young,
did it responsibly, and then moved on to bigger and better things. (Namely Harvard Law school and his current political career) And atleast Senator Obama had the balls to openly admit his past drug use,
unlike our current President. If anything, his admission should gain him more votes. Of course, people like
those assholes on Fox News in the morning are going to badmouth him, but anyone who knows anything about drugs will know that past drug use doesn't make a difference on how good a job a person can presently do. If he's not careful, Obama could become a
drug-culture icon. Will Senator Obama become the first president to openly admit to past marijuana and cocaine use? (Remember, Clinton said he "didn't inhale" and Bush won't admit shit!) Damn, I wish I was
Pat Robertson so
God could tell me the future! Damn crazy Christians!! It just goes to show you that the people who DON'T do drugs turn out crazy! PEACE!!
