"There may even be an ANARCHIST here or two..."
Damn right! There are most definitely some anarchists out there actively supporting Ron Paul for President. The fact that the man speaks the truth about the Iraq war, the War on Terror, the War on Drugs, along with his philosophy of libertarianism all naturally appeal to the hearts and minds of many anarchists. Does supporting a man for President, in the first place, run counter to anarchist ideals and principles? In my opinion, not necessarily. To proclaim anarchist ideals, which reject the legitimacy of the democratic process, as an excuse to just remaining apathetic about politics is nihilistic and counterproductive towards change. By not knowing about or participating in politics and contemporary political discourse, you simply help those who wish to marginalise our views and opinions about the state and illegitimate power. Those of us, who are the more pragmatic and realistic kind of anarchists, feel that any step towards shrinking and, ultimately, liquidating the state must be taken. So we work within the sphere of the political process and, for practical purposes, go by labels such as "Left Libertarian" and "Progressive Libertarian". Yes, we still share the same dreams and ideals of our fellow revolutionaries, but we just want to bring about and see real, concrete progress made in the direction of our ideals in a more pragmatic matter. So it shouldn't be ironic to see someone who wishes to smash the state at a presidential campaign. It should be expected and encouraged. While direct action, counter-economics, spreading pamphlets and essays, and making punk music are all great methods of spreading our ideas, the most direct action we can take is to make our voice heard within the political process. VOTE RON PAUL!
